Delta Stars

At Rowena Academy, as part of Delta Academies Trust, we have introduced our Trust Personal Development Framework, ‘Delta Stars’ which has been carefully designed to improve:

  • Pupils’ knowledge of (and their ability to articulate) British Values, other faiths and cultures, equality and diversity, what makes us unique (including protected characteristics at an age-appropriate level), and healthy lifestyles
  • The opportunities and experiences pupils have for personal development

There are two elements to our Personal Development curriculum:

  • PSHE Curriculum – We use Jigsaw as our preferred PSHE programme (you can read more about Jigsaw here). The content of Jigsaw is well sequenced and progressive. It is updated regularly to align with legislation and has numerous related resources. We use unit knowledge organisers to help pupils connect to and remember what they have learned.

  • Wider opportunities and experiences for pupils – Through a rich and broad range of opportunities and experiences which enrich our whole curriculum, we cover progressive events and activities across 16 strands within our Delta Stars offer, that help pupils become well-rounded, knowledgeable citizens who are as well prepared as possible for life ahead. You will find examples of these on our various Personal Development pages, or on our ‘Personal Development in Pictures‘ page where you can see our learning in action!

Enriching through wider opportunities and experiences

Developing the holistic child is of upmost importance and, with this in mind, our broad and balanced curriculum encompasses academic subjects, sport, music and Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural Education. We are particularly proud of the respect and care that our children show for one another, the environment and the community around us.

We provide a wide range of activities and opportunities for our children to ensure they make progress academically, socially, physically and morally. We endeavour, through our curriculum, to stimulate our pupils’ interests and imagination and motivate them through a high standard of teaching and learning to realise their potential and achieve success.

This is a school in the heart of our community and through our teaching and learning we engage and encourage involvement with the local church, Castle, Foodbank, local Care Home etc, to add an extra dimension to our children’s learning.

Excellent links with the local Junior School enable us to have a good understanding of the children’s knowledge and skill levels which helps effective transition.

Throughout the school opportunities are regularly taken to extend the curriculum beyond our statutory requirements and through these experiences children collate their Delta Stars cards for their portfolio . These include:

  • Various Pupil Leadership opportunities.
  • Regular visitors, musicians, and themed assemblies by visitors.
  • Regular curriculum focus days.
  • Use of the outside classroom areas, our Forest School area and locality/wider environment.
  • Educational visits, trips to museums/galleries and other places of interest.
  • Class trips and visits to places of interest connected with the curriculum.
  • Career related learning visits and opportunities.
  • Social, Spiritual and Cultural experiences. ….and much more!
